Aditi Balbir: Founder & Managing Director, V Resorts
(In Conversation with Vishakha Talreja)

Plan a trip to Goa in the monsoons to witness the real beauty and the hills in March to see the last of the snow.
ADITI BALBIR
Founder & Managing Director, V Resorts

V Resorts is a chain of boutique hotels, with five to 25 rooms, located in offbeat destinations in North India. The hotel group is wooing young urban travellers with its crafted itineraries that offer activities and local flavour. V Resorts engages with experts for designing experiences around yoga, rafting, kayaking, angling, bird watching, trekking, cycling, national park safaris and village tours.

Aditi Balbir started her entrepreneurial journey in travel space with V Resorts in 2010. With  V  Resorts,  Aditi  aims to bring quality  and  standardization  to  the  unexplored  breathtaking  locales  of  India offering unique  experiences  to avid  travellers. She talks about the seven V Resort properties and shares some handy travel tips with our readers.

What kind of travellers are you targeting?

We  target  professionals  working in  a  city  craving  for  a  break  from  stressful life. Those who want to spend a few days in the lap of nature and just relax.

There  are  so  many  mid-market,  boutique  hotels  and  resorts  that  now offer unique experiences in India, how are your properties different? Tell us more about the experiences on offer?

We  are  a  chain  of  boutique  hotels  that’s  located  in  some  of  the  most  scenic offbeat locations of the country. All our properties are unique and have been built around a particular experience.
For instance V  Resorts  Sattal is  a Birding  Destination and Sattal  is  home  to  some  230  species  of birds! V  Resorts Ramgarh on the other hand is a  Writer’s  Paradise. Ramgarh has been an  inspiration  for  the  artwork of writers like Rabindranath Tagore  and Mahadevi Verma. Tagore has written some major parts of ‘Geetanjali’ in Ramgarh. Our resort in Pauri is a cultural and heritage destination, while V Resorts in Narkanda is for skiing enthusiasts, V Resorts Rajaji National Park is a forest retreat and we even have a resort in Auwa, a little village near Jodhpur that is witness to many forgotten tales of martyrdom.

Since yours are mid market resorts what should guests expect or rather not expect if they check in at a V Resort property?

Located in offbeat destinations we may not be able to offer a large variety of things, but the  services  that  we  provide  are  exceptional. We focus on delivering great  experiences and hospitality to our guests. After checking in at any of V Resorts properties, our guests get to try organic products, live through local stories and involve themselves in our carefully crafted activities.

Though  we  understand  that  hotel  rates  are  dynamic  but  what’s  the  price range  in  which  you  operate?  Many a times even a mid-market hotel  is  out  of budget for many travellers.

We are a boutique chain and our prices are determined more by demand than any other metric. A stay at one of our properties would start from Rs 4000 per night.

 Which are your upcoming hotels?

We  want  to  have  at  least  10  resorts  around  Delhi  by  end  of  2014  in  places like Sariska, Rathambore, Jaipur and Jodhpur in Rajasthan, Dharamshala and Manali in Himachal. Once we have 10 resorts in Delhi, we would also like to expand in places around Mumbai and Bengaluru.

You are a globetrotter yourself and a hotelier at that. So share some travel secrets or let’s say insider tips with our readers.

When  I  look  for  a  break  I  prefer  to  go  to  places  which  are  not  crowded,  so obviously  I  don’t  travel  during  peak  seasons.  The hills are  very  crowded  during  summer months and beautiful places like Rajasthan and Goa during the winter months. Plan a trip to Goa in the monsoons to witness the real beauty and the hills in March to see the last of the snow, Rajasthan is beautiful in April and during monsoons. The hotels in off season offer the best rates and service and are comparatively less crowded.
