Perfect Sunday Brunch: Ssence, The Suryaa, New Delhi

By Vishakha Talreja

Delhi winter is the perfect time for indulgent Sunday Brunches when you can soak in some sun, engage in long conversations over grills and bubbly and get back home just in time to get some siesta time. If Sunday Brunch is your thing too, read on and if not then although more a reason why you should read this post.

Amid the festive cheer we reached The Suryaa Hotel, which houses two of my favorite restaurants- all day dining Ssence and Sampan. The Sunday was in full swing at Ssence- tables laid, some early birds enjoying their appetizers and cheerful noises coming from each corner.

The sinful island of desserts nudges you to grab a pie or a brownie before heading towards the salad bar. Thanks to the location of the dessert counter, which is bang at the entrance.

Keeping the temptation at bay, we started with their elaborate salads menu but swiftly moved to Tandoori Chicken Pizza. Ssence has one of the best pizzas in town so we wasted no time in ordering them, while my sixteen month old grabbed some potato wedges from the kids buffet. Next we ordered appetizers and guess which were the clear outshiners-  galoutis, mushroom tikka and tawa brain (mutton) masala. If you are a non-vegetarian you must not miss the brain mutton masala.

We were seated at a table where we soaked in the view of the pool as our server kept pouring us sparkling wine, keep our glasses and hearts full. Ssence has an impeccable service and the warm friendly staff add to the cheerful ambience of this restaurant.

Though with repeated helpings of appetizers there was little room in our stomachs, we did make some space for tawa vegetables, curries, fish and some Chinese. Again for the main course we were spoilt for choice.

Ssence is  perfect place for Brunch with your family as it has a special kids menu and also activities such as pizza making that will keep your little ones engaged and happy. Of course they learn some life skills in the bargain too!

Coming to the sweet part of the review. I can safely say that their dessert station is one of the most expansive amongst the Sunday brunches in Delhi- from pudding to rasmalai everything has ben covered. If you are there trust me the choices are mind blogging. So to make it easier for you let me tell you you must try the ice cream teppanyaki.

Ssence might not achieve the grandeur of some luxe city brunches ( say 361 degrees at The Oberoi Gurgaon), but at the price that it offers with Italian Prosecco by its side, it is an unmatched offering. Must go for this one is what we say.
