When you want to save yourself from the hassle of traveling to a holiday destination, going for a staycation, that is a vacation within your city, is a good idea. This Valentines weekend we checked into Anya Hotel in Gurgaon for that much needed break, without going through the hassle of driving down to a far-off location.
Located bang opposite NCR’s posh address- DLF Magnolias and a stone’s throw from the Global Foyer Mall that houses some of the best breweries in town, is the unobtrusive building of the Anya hotel. From South Delhi, it was a comfortable 35-minute drive on a Saturday afternoon.
The check-in was a smooth five minute process and we were in our room. While the room was what we had expect a business hotel to have, the bathroom was plush with a jacuzzi and a shower cubicle. We were pleasantly surprised to have a Valentines Day cake ready in our room. Its these little things where hospitality counts.
We had our meals at the all-day dining restaurant Azul that serves Italian, Mediterranean, Continental and Asian cuisine. Overlooking the Golf Course Road, it has an al-fresco area as well. Their shammi bun maska, wood oven pizzas, khaoey sueay and biryani are something you should try for lunch or dinner meal. The restaurant also has a well stocked bar with its collection of single malts and wines. We tried some of the cocktails that the mixologist was happy to do according to our taste.
The breakfast was a satisfying spread with most Indian breakfast regulars like Dosa, Uttapam, Paranthas etc. Surprisingly, though I had consider this to a business hotel, there were many families who were checked in for the weekend. There were many others like us who were probably staycationing.
For those who are not familiar with NCR, the restaurant hotspot Cyber Hub that houses many restaurants is also closely and you must visit the place for a meal. Kingdom of Dreams, another popular Gurgaon destination that offers the best in live shows and food, is also just a few kilometers away from the hotel.
What works for Anya as a leisure hotel is its spa. It houses the Amaltas Spa, the only L’Occitane spa located in NCR. I opted for a an anti-ageing Facial, Immortelle, that left my skin feeling supple and hydrated. The 75-minute treatment was as good as a facial can get. While my fitness freak husband gave his worked=up muscles some rest and rejuvenation with their Deep Tissue Massage. The spa houses four treatment rooms including two couple suites and each room is equipped with shower, steam/sauna and jacuzzi. The bright yellow interiors of the treatment rooms are a welcome break from the staid interiors that most spas sport. The therapists at the spa are well-trained, an obvious for a brand of that stature and the products being L’Occitane are best a spa can use. L’Occitane uses all products that have natural ingredients. Besides hotel guests, the spa is also open for non-residents of the hotel but a prior appointment is recommended. The facials are priced at Rs 4,000 and most full body massages at Rs 3500 ( excluding taxes).
Other amenities of the hotel include a pool, gym and The Club Lounge to which the club room and suite guests have exclusive access. The hotel has a luxury house car that guests can book. For business and MICE travellers, Anya Hotels has a banquet hall with a capacity of 300 people and a business centre.
Anya Hotel is a part of a homegrown hospitality group and a member of the Design Hotels network. Design Hotels is a group of more than 300 independent hotels around the world which are stylish and local. Design Hotels has now partnered with Starwood Hotels, which will give Anya access to sales and marketing of the StarWood’s SPG programme.
The spa and proximity to Gurgaon’s hotspots, make this hotel ideal for those who like to mix business with pleasure.
